If you're here, it's likely because you watched our short video, a moment where we crossed paths with a hardworking mum named Florida and her son Yohan. What you didn't see in that brief interaction is the incredibly difficult road this family is walking right now.

Yohan's Story

Yohan is a young boy with a beautiful smile and a gentle spirit. In early January, after doctors performed scans and an MRI, Yohan was diagnosed with a germ cell brain tumor. Shortly after, he underwent brain surgery at Starship Children's Hospital in New Zealand.

The surgery was successful in removing the tumor, but this was only the beginning.

As a result of the tumor and surgery:

• Yohan cannot yet move his right hand and fingers
• He also has weakness in his right foot
• Doctors have placed brain shunts to help regulate fluid, as his body cannot yet do this on its own
• He will require a long course of chemotherapy
• His recovery will take months, possibly longer, involving hospital visits, rehabilitation, and immense emotional and physical strength

Despite everything, Yohan is a fighter. His mum describes him as strong, faithful, and determined. The doctors are hopeful that with time, treatment, and support, he can return to a more normal life.

About Florida (Yohan's Mum)

Florida is a devoted mother who makes tireless effort to support her family alongside her husband. Before Yohan's diagnosis, she spent her weekends selling Filipino desserts just to make ends meet rain, hail, or shine. New Zealand's cost of living is high, and without steady employment.

Now, her focus is entirely on Yohan.

Hospital stays, ongoing treatment, travel costs, time away from work, and daily living expenses are sure to place financial strain on this family at a time when they should only be focused on healing.
